"Learning Never Stops" initiative in CCSD66.
These past 2 weeks have been a whirlwind as devices were distributed to students and parent presentations were held at both Prairieview and Lakeview. Parents there were given their first opportunity to log into the devices and access Google Classroom, where student assignments, as well as learning resources, can be found.
Our Technology Director, John Hummel, did an amazing job during the summer preparing over 1000 devices (Chromebooks and iPads) as well as cases and earbuds for all, in addition to beefing up the network infrastructure to allow access by so many devices.
Additionally, PowerSchool, our new Student Information System was installed and student data, including scheduling and demographics, had to be transferred in order for all to be ready for the start of the school year; all of that in addition to the "normal" technology work that must be done to prepare for a new school year.
Teachers are, of course, excited to have ready availability to the devices and one cannot walk through the halls glancing into classrooms without seeing the soft glow of the Chromebooks and the focused look of engagement on student faces.
I am SO looking forward to having the opportunity to spend a great deal of time with these talented educators and our students as we continue to work to improve our pedagogy and, in turn, the level of learning of each and every student.
